Editing a Location Address

Learn how to change the address or pin placement of a location

The location address is one of the first things to verify when editing a location. This field controls the placement of the location’s pin on the map. Incorrect information can cause confusion or frustration for neighbors seeking assistance.

Generally, the location address will be added to your profile by the food bank during the initial map launch process. Once the organization’s profile is claimed, check the address and update it if necessary.

Editing an Address

To edit a location address, click Locations in the left navigation menu. Type the location name in the Search… box, then click the Search icon. In the List of Locations, click the name of the location to open the Location Details page.

In the General Information section, click the Edit icon to edit the information in this section.

In the General Information pop-up, the location address can be adjusted by typing the appropriate information into Address Line 1, Address Line 2, and City, State, Zip Code areas.

Changing Location Pin Placement

If the address is correct but the pin is not appearing in the correct spot on the map, you can reposition the pin position using location coordinates.

To enter location coordinates, click the Edit your coordinates here link under the address fields. A new area opens where you can set the Latitude and Longitude of the pin. Click the Load Coordinates button to refresh the position of the pin.

To reposition the pin on an entrance or location that doesn’t align with the address, you can manually enter the latitude and longitude coordinates to set the pin location.

Click Save Changes when finished.

Finding a Location’s Coordinates

If you don’t know the latitude and longitude coordinates, use Google Maps to find them. From https://maps.google.com/, search for the address or click the location or pin on the Google map. The coordinates are listed in the page URL.

For example, in Google Maps, a search for Pierre Area Food Pantry shows as a pin. Clicking the pin changes the URL to the following: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Pierre+Area+Food+Pantry+-+Food+Distribution+Center/@44.3639366,-100.3653082,...). Latitude and longitude follow the @ symbol. The first number (44.3639366) is the latitude field and the second number (-100.3653082) is the Longitude.

Clicking a pin or location on a Google map also opens a pop-up near the bottom of the page that contains the latitude and longitude of that pin.
